At Canyon Ridge High School, the intercom recently underwent an upgrade. Despite the change in intercom, many hallways at CRHS still lack working intercoms due to old wiring not matching with the new intercoms, and several individual classrooms are unable to hear the announcements.
The new intercom system began installation on November 6th, 2023, and was completed on the 9th of November. Since then “we’ve battled issues in one part of the building or another,” said Mrs. Lesa Long, the CRHS administration secretary.
The change was due to an outdated system CRHS still used. “Several rooms did not function properly due to the [previous] system being outdated. The new system was installed to remedy the issues we were having and to also match the other systems we have throughout the rest of the school district,” said Ryan Bowman, Director of Educational Technology and Operations.
The new intercom system costs just above $35,000 for the TFSD School District.
The entire Twin Falls School District underwent the upgrade. “This was a district change. [CRHS] had absolutely nothing to do with it,” said Mrs. Long.
A contractor plans to come to CRHS over the summer to completely remove the old wiring and install the proper wiring to make the intercom heard over the entire school. “It has not been determined which company we will be using. We are currently in the procurement phase to find a contractor,” said Mr. Bowman.
