It was no surprise that when President Trump won the 2024 election, there would be Americans upset over his victory. I’ve often heard complaints such as, “We’re screwed,” or “He’s going to take away people’s rights.”
These complaints mainly have come from how he deals with immigration, topics regarding LGBTQ, and the economy, such as tariffs. The thing is, Donald Trump is not the “villain” in America’s story, and if anything, Democrats are only upset because the Republican Party is in charge of the country, controlling the House and the Senate as well.
When it comes to immigration, President Trump has stated time after time that he wishes to deport illegal immigrants who have been living in our country. The Democratic party calls this racist, or wrong, or says that it’s unfair and that we should find a more efficient way to protect and help immigrants.
I often hear in classes that deporting illegal immigrants is a racist move on the President’s behalf. However, both the Biden and Obama administrations deported more illegal immigrants than the first and second Trump administrations. Under Biden, the U.S. deported over 4.44 million immigrants. Under Obama, there were 3.16 million immigrants sent back. When it comes to President Trump, he’s only deported 3.13 million.
It wouldn’t be fair to call Trump a racist for deporting immigrants when both Obama and Biden have deported more than he has.
Another argument I have heard has been that President Trump aims to remove the rights of the LGBTQ community. This is not entirely true. As someone who is, in fact, homosexual, and as someone who will always support my Republican party, I am always making sure to do deep dives and find the facts about political leaders.
That being said, President Trump has never mentioned or said anything about overturning same-sex marriage in the U.S. During his 2016 election; he only said that it should be up to the States. Afterwards, he said that the Supreme Court has done its job on the case and can no longer be changed.
This, mind you, comes from the Republican President. The Democratic party, which seems to hold the image of “all are welcome,” chooses to ignore the fact that both Biden and Obama were originally opposed to same-sex marriage.
Obama, in 2008, said that he supported civil unions for same-sex couples, but not marriage. Biden, who has been in politics since the 90s, has been against same-sex marriage, even signing the Defense of Marriage Act in 1996. That bill banned federal recognition of same-sex marriages.
Yes, you can argue that they have had a change of heart since then, but only one of the three I have just listed has never mentioned or spoken out against same-sex marriage. That person is now President.
The only part I can agree on is, yes, President Trump has said that there are only two biological genders, and has disagreed with the idea of being trans in the U.S. He also signed into law that the U.S will only recognize male and female.
This is just common knowledge and science. One interesting thing about the human body is that we have gender-specific bones, which means that a male’s bone structure differs from a female’s. We also only have XX and XY chromosomes, which determine if you are a male or female. Not “Non-binary” or any other now-made-up gender. It’s common sense.
Finally, when it comes to President Trump placing tariffs on other countries, it’s important to mention that both Biden and Obama placed similar tariffs as well. Though perhaps not on Canada and Mexico, the two Democratic leaders both placed tariffs on China. Obama placed a 35% tariff during his first year, dropping it to 25% throughout his presidency. Biden kept the tariffs that Trump placed in his first term.
Donald Trump is not the evil man who will destroy America. I’ll proudly say that he is not the best president the U.S. has had, but I would rather take Donald Trump’s presidency over President Biden’s and President Obama’s.
The Democratic party needs to stop trying to act and say that everything the Trump administration is doing is wrong, when both Democratic predecessors have done similar, if not the exact same things. It’s not fair, nor right.
