Spring sports have started again! That means Softball, Baseball, Tennis, and Track! We’re gonna focus on tennis right now! Tennis isn’t the most popular sport. Even if it isn’t, it is still a really fun sport to play! The Canyon Ridge Tennis Team practices everyday after school for an hour and a half! YES GUYS! Canyon Ridge has a tennis team! They’re pretty freaking awesome! Here’s some things that we do in tennis to help you understand the sport better. Tennis is a racket sport that can be played individually against a single opponent (singles) or between two teams of two players each (doubles). Each player uses a tennis racket that is strung with cord to strike a hollow rubber ball covered with felt over or around a net and into the opponent’s court. The general rules of tennis are players/teams cannot carry the ball or catch it with the racquet. Players cannot hit the ball twice. Players must wait until the ball passes the net before they can return it. A player that does not return a live ball before it bounces twice loses the point. Depending on if you are playing singles or doubles. The outer rectangles of the court are called the “double lines”. That means if you are playing doubles and the ball hits in those rectangles it’s considered in. If you are playing singles and you hit it in those doubles lines then its considered out. The Canyon Ridge Tennis team works hard and plays boys and girls doubles. Mixed doubles (played by a boy and a girl), and singles! Each event has a number that defines what spot they are on and who they play. For Varsity there are only 9 girls and 9 boys. We have out #1 boys singles and #1 girls singles. That means the best player out of the whole team is playing another school’s #1 boys singles and #1 girls singles. It is the same thing with #1 boys and girls doubles, and #1 mixed doubles. For singles we have #1, #2, and #3. For the double teams we only have #1 and #2. Our Varsity is gonna rock it this year and so is the whole rest of the tennis team. Come out and support your fellow Riverhawks!!
