Eleven members of the Canyon Ridge High School varsity bowling team attended State on February 20th and 21st, 2024. The event was held in Burley, at the Snake River Bowl. Braylynn Jerou a varsity bowling member took 1st in the 4A Girls Division at State, and Samuel Combs, a junior and varsity bowling member, took 5th in the 4A Boys Division. Both boys and girls varsity teams attended. 2 girls, and 4 boys also attended, playing in the individual events.

For girls to qualify for State Singles, they must bowl at least 400 points in three rounds. For boys to qualify in singles, they must score at least 500 points in three rounds. For the team to qualify, five members, boys and girls, must score over 1900 points.

At state, whoever is in the top fifteen for the most points after competing in 6 games, boys and girls, continues until ranks are decided for singles, an event for one individual. For teams, whoever earns the most points qualifies. Someone can also qualify for both singles and team to go to State.

“Knowing that I would be able to go to State for bowling, was an amazing feeling. When it was announced that I would continue in the State tournament, I remember smiling, seeing my teammates and family congratulating me. I have been honored to compete at the state level for the first time.” Said Yaritza Martinez, a junior and bowling team captain, “We accomplished a lot as a team, from the boys and girls, and for ourselves as well. I felt much satisfaction when I did [qualify for state], as I have worked hard for this moment, and am very appreciative of it.”

“This was my first time going to State in any sport that I have played.
It has been amazing but challenging. Everyone is so supportive; it makes bowling so much easier,” said Ellie McNeil, a varsity bowler. “It felt amazing to get that far, and I was overjoyed.”

The bowling team meets two times a week for practice at Bowladrome, participating in two matches a week at different schools in the Twin Falls School District. The season starts in November and ends in February.

“I was very happy with this season. We had some very dedicated kids who were passionate about the sport and competition. Both of our girls and boys’ teams achieved some great goals and represented well at competition. I am very proud of them.” Said coach Shana Hoge.

There were eleven state qualifiers: Samuel Combs, Braydon Batten, Mayson Elison, Ashton Hoge, Conner Franklin, Braylynn Jeroue, Serenity Hermann, Yaritza Martinez, Arlette Ursenbach, Ellie McNeil, and Fallon Kronberg.
