Canyon Ridge High School (CRHS) senior Chaz Attebury placed first in the men’s 100 Yard Breaststroke in the 2025 Idaho HS Swimming 6A State Championships, located in Boise, Idaho at the Idaho Central Aquatic Center during the 2025 high school swim season. He earned a time of 59.47 seconds.
This was the first time a CRHS athlete has placed first at state swim since current head coach Micheal Ashby won at state in 2017.
The other finalists competing against Chaz were Jedidiah Davis, Jaden Akpan, Dawson Cushman, Kael Bokma, and Connor Roy in order of placement. Jedidiah Davis, in second place, achieved a time of 1:00.01.
“Being surrounded by such strong competitors made the experience both challenging and exciting,” said Chaz. “I felt proud and relieved after the competition, especially knowing how much preparation went into the race.”
“This year I spent 3,300 hrs in the pool. So winning felt incredibly rewarding because it showed that my hard work paid off. To reach that point, I trained consistently, putting in long hours at practice, focusing on technique, endurance, and race strategy. I stayed disciplined throughout the season, even when practices were difficult or exhausting,” stated Chaz.
Chaz also competed in the men’s 100 Yard Freestyle and the men’s 100 and 200 Yard Freestyle Relays. He placed fifth in 100 Yard Freestyle with a time of 48.30, setting a new school record. While Chaz did not place in the other events, he did set a new school record in the men’s 100 Yard Breaststroke with his previous time being 1:00.97 and the new record being 59.47 seconds.
