Professional ballroom dancer, Kaishon Hamann, was hired for the 2025-2026 school year to be the dance choreographer for Synergy, Canyon Ridge High School’s show choir.
Hamann was involved with the choir last year, serving as a consultant to the show choir’s previous choreographer, Ms. Jessica Carney, who served as choreographer for four years.
Hamann holds an Associate of Dance Degree in American Rhythm and Smooth and is experienced in many dance styles, including aerial silks, drill, cheer, modern, hip hop, jazz, Charleston, and ballroom.
He has taught dance for ten years for various local musicals as well as private and group sessions for weddings, seniors, and teens. This job as Synergy dance choreographer is “technically [his] first paid position as an official choreographer.”
Working with Synergy’s singing director, Ms. Amanda Hall, Hamann expressed their aligned goal to help Synergy members “understand a skill that they can take with them in the future.”
One of the challenges Hamann has found so far is that “when you deal with young people…it’s difficult to get them to see the future…I think when you’re young, it’s easy to focus on the pain of waking up in the morning.”
But he is working to overcome this challenge by leading by example. He plans to take an active role in the show choir and work closely with the members to put on a good show and help each individual grow as an artist and a person.
“I really don’t think that being a mentor or a coach or a teacher and working in a young person’s life is sterile. I think that you’re shaping who they could become.” Hamann stated.
